Greenland – Kangerlussuaq

After a relatively short flight, only four and a quarter hours, John and Bill landed in Greenland. It was 30 below.

The first airport was built here during the US occupation in 1941 under the name of Bluie West-8, later renamed Sondrestrom Air Base. It was turned over to the Greenland government in 1992. It is scheduled to be shut down after replacement airports are built. Bill says there isn’t much here, that everyone is friendly and most people speak English.

The hotel is attached to the terminal. The prices are the same as the hotel at the airport terminal in Vancouver, but the accommodation isn’t quite the same.

Bill reported that there was an S61 flying around. At minus 28. He said he was too cold to take pictures outside.
